EarthData Team Awarded Coastal Resource Management Support Contract

Frederick, MD (August 10, 2005) – EarthData and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Coastal Services Center (CSC) have signed a 5-year indefinite delivery contract for geospatial services to support coastal resource management in all coastal states, US islands, and Pacific territories. The EarthData team comprises 23 industry leaders and small businesses who will partner with CSC to support those that manage our nation’s coastal resources and communities. “We have worked for years to develop relationships with firms who provide complementary coastal mapping, geographic information system (GIS), and analysis services,” said EarthData Chairman Bryan Logan. “Our team members understand the challenges CSC faces in balancing our coastal areas as economic and social gateways and as complex, irreplaceable ecosystems.”

EarthData team members are specialists in photogrammetric and thematic mapping, remote sensing, satellite image processing, bathymetric surveying, sediment imaging and profiling, and economic analysis of coastal environments, among other disciplines. “CSC already has worked successfully with several members of this team,” said CSC Coastal Information Services Branch Chief, Nicholas Schmidt. “Their collective expertise and experience provide the diverse capabilities we need to achieve our mission.”

Services provided under this contract include thematic mapping, aerial and satellite data acquisition, topographic and bathymetric mapping, sediment imaging and profiling, surveying services, GIS, and social, economic, and ecological analyses, all in support of coastal resource assessments, characterizations, and conservation.
