Morrisville, N.C. – The Property Records Industry Association (PRIA) will host an Annual Winter Symposium in Washington, D.C., on March 2-4, at Washington Marriott Hotel.
Two activities will kick off the symposium on Wednesday, March 2. The Second Annual Capitol Hill Visit will bring members together to converge upon the legislative office buildings in downtown Washington with scheduled visits with their state’s representatives. It’s an opportunity to meet with legislators and discuss issues involving the land records industry. Informational materials will be provided for all those attending.
On Wednesday afternoon, a GIS Informational Workshop, spanning a three-hour timeslot, will focus on how the GIS department and land records office can coordinate their efforts to produce greater efficiencies for the counties and more effective services for their constituents. Workshop topics will include an overview of a modern recorder’s office, an overview of geographic information systems, a “real world” case study in GIS and land records integration from a PRIA member county, a look at the areas of common interest between GIS offices and the recorder’s office and a discussion of why integration and cooperation between these offices is so important.
According to Symposium Co-chair Danny Crank, recorder, Butler Co., Ohio, “The Winter Symposium program will cover the full scope of timely issues pertinent to anyone involved in the process of executing recordation of property transactions. It will include working sessions on the most current property records “hot” topics of land fraud, privacy and access, redaction best practices, risk management and committee breakout sessions where policies, practices and standards are initially developed.”
The final draft of the PRIA Records Access and Privacy Policy Committee’s White Paper on “Access to and Sale in Bulk of Land Records” will be presented for review by the membership for one last round of input before it is sent to the Board of Directors for approval. The discussion promises to be spirited and engaging.
“The definition of ‘networking,’ as stated in the Encarta Dictionary, speaks to ‘the act of linking computers,’ as well as the ‘process or practice of building up or maintaining informal relationships,’ observes Joanne Scanlon, Home Equity Title & Recording Services, ISGN, and co-chair of the Winter Symposium in 2011. “PRIA provides an ideal venue to network and share information by bringing together government and business to build and maintain relationships and foster opportunities for all.”
