Jacksonville, FL — April 26, 2006 — Clary & Associates Professional Surveyors and Mappers took to the great outdoors at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 14th to participate in the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s Fifth Annual “Shoot for a Cure” competition. Participating teams, both sponsored and co-sponsored by the company, gathered together at W.W. Sporting Clays in Jacksonville to raise funds for the foundation’s popular charity sporting event.
Having donated $1,875 in competition entry fees, Clary & Associates helped to raise money for cure research, as well as public awareness of cystic fibrosis (CF) — a genetic disease affecting approximately 30,000 adults and children in the United States. As an added bonus to an inherently rewarding day, one of the Clary and Associates teams was honored as the First in Class winner of the B-Class teams. Individual event shooters representing Clary & Associates were: Greg Clary, Bob Pittman and Rob Gardner — a former sharpshooter for the United States Army.

According to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, more than 10 million Americans are unknowing, symptomless carriers of the defective CF gene, which causes the body to produce abnormally thick secretions that clog the lungs and lead to life threatening lung infections. These secretions also obstruct the pancreas, preventing digestive enzymes from reaching the intestines to help break down and absorb food.
The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation supports and accredits more than 115 CF care centers nationwide. These centers, located at major teaching and community hospitals, offer comprehensive diagnosis and treatment, as well as provide high-quality, specialized care for those afflicted with the disease. The annual “Shoot for a Cure” fund-raising event is just one of the ways the foundation raises awareness and much-needed funds for scientific research.

Co-presented by Batson-Cook Construction and Adams Interior Contractors, the event cost $1,250 per each team of four shooters. The entry fee included lunch from Cross Creek Steakhouse and Ribs, post-event snacks, beverages and ammunition.
