Topcon® Announces World's First Digital Imaging Total Station

Livermore, CA – Topcon proudly announces a groundbreaking new concept in precision measurement – the GPT-7000i Digital Imaging Total Station. With this new instrument you can capture reality now and measure it later – with all the long-range prismless measurement capabilities and advanced operating features that the 7000 series is known for.

Topcon’s new DIM™ (Digital Imaging Measurement) technology enables the operator to view a real-time image of the target object on the display of the on-board computer – just as viewed through the lens. The image can be used to guide field data collection, and then saved for use at later time. Topcon’s new companion software, PI 3000, enables continued analysis and measurement of the target image with a desktop PC. Functionality can be extended by combining images with a position-linked high-resolution digital camera.

Topcon’s 7000 Series instruments feature on-board computers with Windows® CE operating systems. A touch screen display and a user-oriented graphical interface allow fast, precise data collection and survey functions. Unique dual-optical, pulse laser design provides focused beam accuracy on long distance measurements – up to 250 meters reflectorless, and up to 3000 meters with a prism. Features include a compact flash card slot that can be used for additional memory or a Bluetooth® card for wireless communications.

The GPT-7000i cuts fieldwork time to a minimum. It enables survey analysis of inaccessible objects such as buildings, landslides, and non-navigable terrain. It’s perfect for forensic applications where a digital image record and precise measurements are required with no disturbance to the study area.
