The Egg Harbor Township site is next to the FAA technical center and the Atlantic City International Airport.
Egg Harbor Township, N.J. (Oct. 9, 2020) — Woolpert is opening an office that will serve as the firm’s aviation research and unmanned aircraft systems hub in the National Aviation Research and Technology Park in Egg Harbor Township, N.J. The space will support Woolpert’s full suite of UAS and urban air mobility personnel, technology and equipment, which includes platforms, sensors and advanced data processing systems.
Woolpert has supported the design, engineering and geospatial needs of airports and air bases worldwide for multiple decades and has been operating UAS commercially since 2012. The firm is at the forefront of researching, developing and integrating UAS technologies for the Federal Aviation Administration, airports and governmental agencies. Most recently, the firm was contracted to develop UAS airfield application guidelines and UAS airport response standards.
The National Aviation Research and Technology Park is dedicated to facilitating the advancement of aviation research, technologies and innovation. The NARTP has collaboration agreements with Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, Rowan University, Stockton University and the National Institute of Aerospace. It is located in an Aviation Innovation Hub that includes the adjoining FAA William J. Hughes Technical Center and Atlantic City International Airport, which serves as a Smart Airport Research Test Bed Facility.
The FAA technical center is dedicated to the research, development and sustainment of the National Airspace System. The site is physically and technologically secure, with easy ingress and egress for pilots and operators.
“From a relationship standpoint, it will be extremely valuable to be able to interact daily with colleagues and clients,” Woolpert Vice President Thomas Mackie said. “From a collaboration perspective, the park has created a think tank-like atmosphere that is helping propel aviation research and technology projects worldwide. We’re excited to be a part of it.”
Woolpert’s existing aviation and UAS staff will utilize the Egg Harbor Township office, and the firm has hired five full-time employees who will be based at the site. Additional hires are expected later this year.
“We are very pleased to have Woolpert join us at the National Aviation Research and Technology Park as we continue to develop and strengthen an aviation industry in southern New Jersey,” NARTP Chairman Sam Young said. “We welcome them and assure them of our strong support and commitment to their success and growth.”
