Elyria, Ohio – June 04, 2015 – Lynn S. Miggins, P.E., President of civil engineering and surveying firm KS Associates, Inc., has been chosen as the recipient of the 2015 Outstanding Civil Engineer of the Year Award by the Cleveland Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). The award annually recognizes a civil engineer who has prominence in the community and who has worked hard to advance the civil engineering profession. Miggins received her award on Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at the ASCE Cleveland Section 2015 Dinner Meeting and 100-Year Anniversary Gala.
Miggins is majority owner of KS Associates, Inc., a successful civil engineering firm that she founded with her business partner in 1987. According to Michael J. Lyden, P.E., outgoing president of the ASCE Cleveland Section, “Lynn was chosen for the 2015 Outstanding Civil Engineer of the Year Award because she has led and has been involved in projects that have had a positive impact and direct benefit to the Northeast Ohio community. She also exemplifies leadership by volunteering her time and talent on several advisory boards, and works hard to pave the way for future civil engineers through a relentless focus on education and opportunity.”
Under Miggins’ leadership, KS Associates has been providing surveying, engineering or construction-phase services for projects that are changing the Northeast Ohio landscape. These include the I-90 Westbound Cleveland Innerbelt Bridge, the $28 million S.R. 57 Corridor Improvement Project in Elyria, the redesign of Cleveland Public Square; inspections and improvements to numerous bridges along The Ohio Turnpike, thousands of miles of sewer and facilities infrastructure for Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District, site development projects aimed at sustainability and preserving the natural environment including the Case Western Reserve Tinkham Veale University Center, repairs to the City of Cleveland’s Gordon Park along Lake Erie’s shoreline, and the new Cleveland Metroparks Water Taxi Service along the Cuyahoga River.
Miggins also serves as City Engineer for the City of Vermilion where she steers, implements and helps secure funding for projects that improve the community’s livability. Her volunteer board positions include Team Lorain County, University of Akron Women in Engineering Advisory Board, UH Elyria Medical Center, and American Council of Engineering Companies of Ohio for which she has been nominated as the incoming state president. In addition to ASCE, she is a member of American Water Works Association and Women’s Transportation Seminar (WTS). Miggins is a 2013 Cleveland Engineering Society Hall of Fame inductee – the highest award given to an individual by the Society — and is a recipient of the Women of Achievement Award from the Elyria YWCA.
