Merrick & Company Supports Tallahassee Leon County, FL in LiDAR Mapping Data Collection Updates

Aurora, CO – August 9, 2012 – Merrick & Company geospatial solutions group was selected in supporting the Tallahassee-Leon County Geographic Information Systems (TLCGIS), as they move to update the county’s existing land base maps. The maps are under the purview of TLCGIS, an interlocal partnership of the City of Tallahassee, the Leon County Board of County Commissioners, and the Leon County Property Appraiser’s Office.

Ortho-imagery, for this client, is a requirement of the State every three years. Under the current three-year program, Merrick acquired aerial photography, survey control, aerotriangulation, and planimetry and topographic mapping using LiDAR technologies, covering approximately 786 square miles. Merrick has been providing services like these to TLCGIS since 2001 in the form of program management, softcopy photogrammetric updating of digital terrain models (DTMs), contour generation, and aerial image orthorectification as well.

“Merrick provides the best technical response to our requests and has been most open to creative solutions that meet our needs. We’ve contracted with Merrick in the past and their work is outstanding,” says Lee Hartsfield, GIS Coordinator, Tallahassee-Leon County.

Many years ago TLCGIS selected LiDAR as their technology of choice. They are one of the first public agencies in Florida to use LiDAR in the acquisition of mapping data, and it has been valuable to them ever since.
