Orlando, Fla. – The RLF-designed MD Anderson Cancer Center Orlando is ranked #13 on Soliant Health Care’s annual list of top 20 Most Beautiful Hospitals in the United States. According to Soliant leaders, participants cast nearly 170,000 votes this year.
MD Anderson Cancer Center Orlando is one of three facilities in Florida to make the 2012 list. “Our staff, patients and their families and friends continually comment on what an extraordinarily beautiful and functional facility it is,” said Dr. Clarence Brown, MD, president and CEO, MD Anderson Cancer Center Orlando. After 20 years at the helm, Dr. Brown will retire from this role at the end of 2012 but will continue as president emeritus of MDA and vice president of development for the Orlando Health Foundation.
After receiving more than 300 nominations, Soliant assembled a panel of experts that reviewed each hospital and picked the top 51 entries, based on measures such as architectural style, photogenic properties, landscaping and distinctiveness.
The cancer treatment’s timeless design features a bold one-piece curved brick and glass façade and unique triangular atrium that rises three stories above the main reception area infusing natural daylight throughout. The ten-story, 215,000-square-foot facility has 60 private inpatient rooms and contains all ambulatory and ancillary services required for cancer care from diagnosis through all phases of treatment and follow up.
The facility’s signature design has received recognition from The Center for Health Design / Healthcare Design, Modern Health and the International Interior Design Association. “We are extremely proud that after ten years, people still love this hospital! It is a real testament to the MD Anderson Orlando leadership who have diligently worked to create and maintain a supportive and effective environment of care for their patients and our community,” said Steve Langston, Director of Design for RLF.
