Montreal, Canada, April 12, 2012 – Effigis (formerly VIASAT GeoTechnologies), a leader in the creation, development and implementation of geospatial solutions is pleased to announce today that it has been chosen by Hydro-Québec to carry out an important project in the inspection and structural analysis of the wooden poles in its distribution network throughout Quebec. As a result of this contract, granted following a request for proposals, Effigis will create more than 80 jobs in the months to come.
Since 1995, Effigis has carried out a number of pole inspection projects for Hydro-Québec and infrastructure inventory projects for telecommunications companies. In the case of pole inspections, these reports target poles in Hydro-Québec’s distribution network with the goal of precisely locating them using GPS technology to take an inventory of their features, assess them, and if necessary, treat them to increase their lifespan. As part of this new project, Effigis multi-disciplinary teams will inspect more than 100,000 poles in 2012 throughout Quebec territory.
“We are delighted to have succeeded once again in meeting Hydro-Québec’s needs,” commented Claude Levasseur, Vice-President of Geomatics at Effigis. “This is a strategic, large-scale project that confirms our leadership position in the field of inventory reports and pole inspections.” The project will start in April 2012.
