FEMA Relents on New Elevation Certificate Deadline

On July 7, 2023, FEMA sent out a letter mandating immediate use of the new Elevation Certificate that had been posted to its website on June 29, 2023 without advance notice. FEMA has just changed course as of August 9, 2023, and now has extended use of the old form until November 1, 2023. This “grace period” is more in line with what all those completing and utilizing Elevation Certificates have become used to over the many decades of the National Flood Insurance Program; it does take some time for word to get out that there is a new document.  Please note that the new form can be downloaded from FEMA’s site at https://www.fema.gov/flood-insurance/find-form/underwriting  Some people are noting difficulty in downloading the new fillable PDF; FEMA is aware of the problem. See the August 9 Memorandum for dates relating to use and acceptance of old and new Elevation Certificate forms.
