SUE Association Announces National Conference

SueFairfax, VA – A national conference on state-of-the-art practice in subsurface utility engineering (SUE) will convene in Denver, Colorado on August 24-25, the Subsurface Utility Engineering Association announced today.

“An outstanding program of speakers, presentations, and discussion on issues specific to the SUE community of practice will be presented.  We’ll focus on new markets, emerging technology, policy and legislation, and innovative business offerings,” said Andrew Sylvest (Lamb-Star Engineering, LLC, Golden, Colorado), President of the SUE Association. “A lot has changed in the SUE profession and market since our last conference, held pre-COVID in Washington, DC in 2019, particularly the implementation of SB 18-167 in Colorado and the release of ASCE 38-22, Standard Guideline for Investigating and Documenting Existing Utilities.”

Formed in 2018, the SUE Association has worked to educate and inform the user community about subsurface utility engineering, grow the SUE market, and promote best practices in the delivery of professional SUE services through ASCE 38-02.

Building on the success of its previous conferences held in Washington, DC, the third SUE Association Annual Conference will be held August 24-25 at The Curtis Hotel in Denver, CO.  It is being held concurrent with a Federal Highway Administration regional utility peer exchange, providing an opportunity for private sector firms and government officials, particularly from state departments of transportation, to engage in networking and information exchanges.

The conference will feature key officials from Federal agencies, thought leaders in the SUE profession, representatives of technology firms, and discussions on practice and market issues. Included are updates on the release of the new ASCE 75-22, Standard Guideline for Recording and Exchanging Utilities Infrastructure Data, and ASCE 38-22, Standard Guideline for Investigating and Documenting Existing Utilities.”
