Blue Marble Releases Geographic Calculator 2019

Updated Geodetic Datasource and Numerous Workflow Improvements

Hallowell, Maine – December 9, 2018 – Blue Marble Geographics (bluemarblegeo.com) is pleased to announce the immediate availability of the 2019 release of Geographic Calculator. Over its twenty-five year history, this powerful geodetic software has set the standard for accurate coordinate and datum management and has become the go-to application for countless companies and organizations for whom locational precision is essential. Highlights of the 2019 release include a universal copy and paste function, a new angular unit conversion tool, support for NADCON 5.0, and updated seismic survey conversion functionality.

For over twenty-five years, Blue Marble’s affordable, user-friendly GIS software has been meeting the needs of hundreds of thousands of satisfied customers throughout the world. Users come from all industries including software, oil and gas, mining, civil engineering, surveying, and technology companies, as well as government departments and academic institutions.

The foundation of Geographic Calculator’s geodetic data processing functionality is the embedded GeoCalc datasource. Universally regarded as the most extensive collection of coordinate system definitions, transformation algorithms, and other geodetic parameters, the datasource is continually revised and improved with updates available through the online GeoCalc Geodetic Registry. The datasource included in the 2019 release mirrors the most current EPSG database definitions ensuring accuracy in any calculation workflow.

Streamlining the process of transferring data to and from the various jobs in Geographic Calculator, the 2109 release introduces a simple copy and paste function. This can be used to quickly capture data for use in a third-party application or to insert new coordinate values in an existing job. The latest version also includes a new tool for accurately converting between various angular units and offers expanded seismic survey conversion capability with improved P1/11 format support and additional SEG-Y format handling for coordinate scalar values.

Additional updates include support for NADCON 5.0 from the NGS, providing three-dimensional (latitude, longitude, ellipsoid height) coordinate transformations within the National Spatial Reference System; several new projection methods, including Bonne South and Krovak North; an update to the NGS’ Horizontal Time-Dependent Positioning (HTDP) to v3.2.5; and support for version 3.7 of the NGS VDatum.

On the surface, the 2019 release boasts a refreshed interface with new icons and graphic elements for various jobs and tools, as well as optimized architecture for the Windows 10 environment.

“With the imminent approach of the North American Terrestrial Reference Frame in 2022 the need for highly accurate geodetic tools has become more important than ever,” stated Patrick Cunningham, Blue Marble President. “Geographic Calculator continues to lead the way in this field and as is evident in release of the 2019 edition, we are continually raising the bar by providing ever more powerful tools combined with the world’s most expansive geodetic database.”

Blue Marble Application Specialists will be conducting a live webinar on Thursday, January 10th during which they will showcase the highlights of Geographic Calculator 2019. This hour-long presentation is scheduled to begin at 2:00 pm (U.S. Eastern Time), and it will provide an opportunity to see the latest tools and to ask questions about the new functionality.
