Pointfuse Launch Point Cloud Software for DotProduct Laser Scanners

Shepperton Studios, 14 December 2017 – Users of DotProduct 3D handheld scanners can now produce 3D models at the touch of button following the release this week of Pointfuse for DP. A powerful meshing solution that offers a one-button approach to converting DotProduct scan data into lightweight, intelligent 3D models, Pointfuse for DP can potentially reduce output file sizes by tenfold, dramatically improving downstream workflows including solid modeling and Virtual Reality environments.

Offering a “one button” approach, Pointfuse for DP not only converts DotProduct point clouds into 3D models with accurate geometry, but also enables the discrete mesh surfaces within the models to be isolated and manipulated in third-party CAD software. Pointfuse for DP allows DotProduct users to access Pointfuse’s powerful 3D modeling engine, directly from the Dot3D software, providing a fast, easy and accurate method for generating 3D models.

“The release of Pointfuse for DP is important for DotProduct users as it will streamline workflows especially for emerging applications such as AR/VR,” commented Tom Greaves, Chief Marketing Officer at DotProduct LLC. “Pointfuse for DP provides a user-friendly, high value solution for getting point cloud data ready for downstream use, so we are excited to work with Pointfuse to launch it to our users.”

Mark Senior, Business Development Manager at Pointfuse, added, “To celebrate the launch of Pointfuse for DP we working with DotProduct to offer free trials of the software and, for a limited time only, a significant reduction on the list price.”

Pointfuse for DP is being offered, for a limited time only, with a festive discount. DotProduct customers on active software support and maintenance can obtain a massive $200 off the list price with others eligible for a $100 reduction. This offer is available by contacting DotProduct directly via www.dotproduct3d.com and expires on 12/31. Free trials of Pointfuse for DP are also available from the DotProduct website.

DotProduct handheld scanners provide mobile 3D scanning solutions for rapid capture of the existing spaces and facilities. The flagship DPI-8X is an Android-based self-contained handheld 3D scanner, allowing users to instantly capture 3D color data with full freedom of motion. A complete solution, with all hardware and software included, the DPI-8X exports data directly to the highly compressed DP point cloud format – now compatible with Pointfuse for DP for onward processing. The DPI-8X SR offers a solution for close proximity scanning. With a range of 0.3-2 m, the DPI-8X SR provides accurate and reliable results in complex environments.

About Pointfuse
Pointfuse is a powerful modeling engine that delivers an automatic, precise and flexible way of converting the vast point cloud datasets generated by laser scanners or photogrammetry into segmented mesh models. Pointfuse uses advanced statistical techniques to create 3D models where individual surfaces can be selected and classified as new layers in the Pointfuse environment and exported to IFC and FBX for manipulation in any industry-standard CAD system. Offering ‘selectable surfaces’, Pointfuse V3 provides a unique approach. Surfaces within the 3D mesh models produced by Pointfuse V3 can now be identified, grouped and classified. These advancements within Pointfuse V3 bring a catalyst to the workflow of design and engineering projects, offering efficiencies that have not been possible when working with point clouds or traditional mesh models. Pointfuse V3 also significantly reduces the file size of 3D models created from point clouds. In simple terms, the data density within each surface is reduced whilst still maintaining the fidelity of the model. This results in a reduction in model size by a factor of ten, making ongoing use of the model easier, faster and more efficient. www.pointfuse.com
