Rolling Out Later this Month, Bundled Offering of Moverio Smart Glasses and Optimized DJI Go App Enables Users to See What Drone Sees and Maintain Eye Contact with Craft
Optimized for use with DJI hardware, the Epson Moverio BT-300 Drone Edition glasses are now available for mining operations to enhance the safety, productivity and capabilities of DJI unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The combined solution provides a transparent, heads-up-display (HUD) to maintain a visual line of sight (VLOS) of the UAV, helping mining companies adhere to FAA regulations regarding VLOS while increasing the quality of the shoot.
The Moverio BT-300 Drone Edition comes pre-loaded with the DJI GO app for use with most DJI hardware. The Drone Edition glasses feature clip-on dark shades for use in bright sunlight as well as special fasteners that secure the Moverio controller onto the DJI phone mount for easy operation. The Moverio BT-300 Drone Edition has a suggested price of $799.
Drone photography is being adopted by many mining companies today for aerial videography to survey land for mapping deposit sites, mineral exploration, monitoring site conditions and tracking stockpiles. The imaging capability turns drones into the perfect airborne data collector.
Currently, drone photographers must peer down at a smartphone or tablet to view the drone camera feed. This is often difficult in bright sunlight, and unsafely takes the user’s eyes off the craft. With the Moverio’s first-person view (FPV) ‘screen’, pilots can see hazards such as trees, poles and buildings as well as more easily guide their crafts for desired camera views.
With the glasses, drone pilots are able to see an in-flight HUD that informs them of everything from flight time to battery life, and even picture-in-picture maps in crisp 720p HD resolution. In the near future, pilots will also be able to view on-screen data such as recording operations, speed, height and more as part of the Moverio’s augmented reality capabilities. DJI maintains a 70 percent market share of the $2 billion consumer drone market, and its aerial platforms are used by two-thirds of businesses approved by the FAA to operate commercially. More than 600,000 UAVs are expected to be in use in 2017.
