GeodesyGroup Purchases UltraCam LP

Graz, Austria — December 4, 2014 — GeodesyGroup Inc. has contracted with Microsoft’s UltraCam business unit and subsidiary to purchase an UltraCamLp aerial digital camera system that enables simultaneous digital image/LiDAR acquisition.

The UltraCamLp offers a versatile platform for small to mid-size aerial mapping projects and is particularly well-suited for smaller aircraft due to its internal SSD hard drives. GeodesyGroup is installing the UltraCamLp in a Cessna 206 alongside a LiDAR sensor. “The UltraCamLp offers excellent value for the money, and the image footprint matches our new LiDAR footprint perfectly,” said Marcel Joubert, Managing Director of GeodesyGroup Inc. “We feel that the UltraCamLp provides exceptional image quality, and our clients will benefit from a better end product.”

GeodesyGroup serves public and private sector customers on oil and gas, national mapping, transportation and other types of projects in the US and Canada. The UltraCamLp will provide fill-in support to the GeodesyGroup’s UltraCamXp but primarily will be used in conjunction with its new LiDAR sensor.

“We wanted to have a second camera available to assist on larger projects. GeodesyGroup has operated an UltraCamXp for three seasons, and we are very happy with the image quality, ease of operation, marketplace acceptance, reliability and quick image processing,” said Joubert. “It made sense to purchase a complementary UltraCam system. Specifically, the 70mm lens on the UltraCamLp allows flying at lower altitudes with the Cessna 206 so two aircraft can fly the same blocks at different altitudes for air traffic control considerations.”

“With the smallest footprint of the UltraCam large format cameras, the UltraCamLp offers tremendous value at a lower price point and is highly suitable for acquiring digital imagery in conjunction with LiDAR,” said Alexander Wiechert, Microsoft Business Director. “For GeodesyGroup, extending its services by purchasing a second UltraCam camera is a logical step to remain competitive in the North American marketplace.”

About the UltraCam Lp
The compact UltraCamLp features an image footprint collection capacity of 92 megapixels (11,704 x 7,920 pixels pan). Its advanced hardware, electronics, and software result in an efficient camera system capable of collecting five spectral bands per exposure: red, green, blue, and near-infrared data, in addition to higher-resolution panchromatic data.
