INTERGEO Conference: Learn About Tomorrow’s World Today!

Karlsruhe/Berlin, 15 August 2014. Experts from the fields of geodesy, geoinformation and land management will meet at INTERGEO in Berlin from 7 – 9 October. The leading trade fair’s 20th anniversary event will be hosting numerous lectures, forums and discussions of national and international importance on hot topics and future developments.

The first day of the INTERGEO conference and 3rd National INSPIRE conference is dedicated to the challenges the 21st century will bring and is set to explore the solutions the geoinformation sector has on hand. Keynote speeches will be delivered by the conference patron, German Minister of the Interior, Dr. Thomas de Maizière, and German Federal Environment Minister, Dr. Barbara Hendricks (both members of the German Bundestag).

The second day will address “geoinformation for current-day infrastructures”, as experts investigate how to deal with the increasing volume of data produced in our “digital world”. The key areas of debate will be energy, smart cities, demographics and transportation.

The third (and final) day of the conference will be opened by Brigitte Zypries, State Secretary at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. Her keynote address will lay out the “commercial use of public geodata” as a common aim. Experts from the fields of research, politics and society will be focusing on the future – perfectly in line with INTERGEO’s motto of “Knowledge and action for planet Earth”. After all, the use of geodata unleashes vast potential, for instance in the fields of logistics, flood protection and healthcare.

The international audience is catered for with events such as the English-language plenary talk entitled “Mobile Future Now”, hosted by the INTERGEO Advisory Board members Dr. Jürgen Dold (Leica), Eric Arvesen (Trimble) and Jürgen Schomakers (Esri) in the company of Prof. Georg Gartner (TU Vienna). This session will tie together all the themes covered by the conference. International activities at INTERGEO will include the 3rd International Student Meeting on 7 and 8 October and co-meeting of the Young Surveyors Network of the International Federation of Surveyors (FIG).

The 2nd EUROGI imaGIne Conference will run alongside INTERGEO on 8 and 9 October. Under the patronage of Germany’s Vice Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel, member of the Bundestag and German Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, the conference will look at the latest issues facing the field of geoinformation at a pan-European level.
