Dayton, Ohio (July 21, 2014)Woolpert, a national geospatial, infrastructure management and design firm headquartered in Dayton, announced that it has been awarded a one-year contract with the West Virginia Department of Transportation to provide on-call aerial photography and mapping services to support the design of roadway and bridge projects. The agreement, valued at up to $750,000 in the first year, may be extended for an additional one-year term.
“We are pleased to provide the West Virginia Department of Transportation the aerial photography and mapping services they need to continually enhance the state’s system of highways and bridges,” said Jeff Lovin, Woolpert senior vice president and director of geospatial services. “We will leverage Woolpert’s expertise in geospatial services and the latest in digital imagery technologies to deliver the high-accuracy data needed to maintain a safe, efficient transportation network throughout West Virginia.”
Woolpert will perform the work statewide in response to specific requests by the agency. The firm’s services will include aerial photography, aerial target placement, photogrammetric control surveys, and photo reproduction and enlargement, as well as the digital compilation of maps in compliance with the Division of Highways’ technical requirements.
According to the contract terms, Woolpert will be able to deploy various survey, remote sensing and aerial mapping technologies such as imagery, aerial and mobile LiDAR, and unmanned aerial systems.
In response to the growing demand for aerial data, Woolpert, two years ago, doubled its aircraft fleet for a total of six and added two airborne LiDAR scanners to its LiDAR equipment suite. In 2013, the firm purchased its first unmanned aerial system (UAS), the Nova Block III, to meet clients’ needs for geospatial services.
Woolpert currently provides aerial photography and mapping services for the Department of Transportation in 12 states. It last worked with the state of West Virginia in 2004.
