R. Christopher Goodwin & Associates, Inc. Named Archaeologist of the Year by Louisiana

Award recognizes firm’s participation as part of the Dewberry team that provided consulting support to the Federal Emergency Management Agency

Fairfax, VA—July 2, 2014 – R. Christopher Goodwin & Associates, Inc. (RCG&A), a cultural resource management group, was recently recognized by Louisiana Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne and the Louisiana Office of Cultural Development as Archaeologist of the Year at the annual Louisiana Culture Awards.

The award recognizes RCG&A’s efforts to highlight and refine the rich cultural resources of Louisiana, including the firm’s contribution to implementing the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) in the state. RCG&A acted as the archeological and historic preservation contractor for the larger Dewberry team that provided consulting support to FEMA.

RCG&A’s work was part of FEMA’s fulfillment of the Programmatic Agreement between the agency and the State of Louisiana following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and represented one of the largest single-project contributions to Louisiana archeology. The Dewberry team performed archeological surveys of Fontainebleau State Park and New Orleans’ City Park; researched more than 200 parks around New Orleans, conducting archeological investigations at 30 parks; analyzed 11 archeological collections that had not been previously examined or were not analyzed using modern methods; scanned more than 150,000 National Register and Standing Structure documents; and surveyed seven New Orleans National Register Historic Districts.
