INTERGEO Conference Integrates Geoinformation with Modern Infrastructures

Berlin / Karlsruhe – 10 June 2014. This year’s conference at the 20th INTERGEO will be taking a close look at crucial social and political topics set within the framework of increasing global digitization. A whole series of events and forums will offer in-depth discussions on shaping and developing our living environment.

The 3rd National INSPIRE Conference will be opened by German Federal Minister of the Interior, Dr. Thomas de Maiziere, and German Federal Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety, Dr. Barbara Hendricks. The event will take place on INTERGEO Tuesday under the heading “Geoinformation as the key to unlocking the social challenges of the 21st century”.

As the basis for current-day infrastructures, geoinformation represents another facet of the discussion surrounding our digital, networked world. Key aspects of this debate include the energy supply, smart cities, demographics and traffic. The GIW Commission of the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy will be considering approaches and solutions to the “potential market for public geodata” at the conference.

“What lies in store? Mobile Future Now!” sets the tone for the second day of the conference, when Dr. Jürgen Dold (Leica Geosystems AG), Prof. Georg Gartner (TU Vienna), Eric Arvesen (Trimble Navigation) and Jürgen Schomakers (Esri Deutschland GmbH) host a plenary discussion of the direction in which mobile solutions and services are heading.

The future of rural areas, the competition for land in the energy revolution and land policy in conurbations will form the key topics for the session on land management. The conference will also highlight geodetic engineering, 3D modelling and intelligent data capture. “In today’s information society, INTERGEO offers an ideal platform for airing our knowledge, prompting discussion and creating added value – for innovations and creativity,” says Prof. Karl-Friedrich Thöne, President of the event’s host, the German Society for Geodesy, Geoinformation and Land Management (DVW. e. V.).

The 2nd EUROGI imaGIne Conference 2014 will be held in parallel in Berlin, focussing this year on “GI expertise made in Europe”. The event is being organised by the European Umbrella Organisation for Geographic Information (EUROGI) and its national member, the Deutscher Dachverband für Geoinformation e.V. (DDGI).

The conference programme and registration will be going live on 16 June 2014.
