Frederick, MD – Pat Smith, a Professional Land Surveyor from Austin, Texas takes the reins of the National Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS) as its President for 2014. He had been elected President-Elect in 2013.
Smith has been a registered PLS since 1984. He was the owner of Interstate Surveying, Inc. from 1989-2006 when he joined Stanley Consultants, Inc. as Technical Chief of Surveys. Since 2011, Smith has been with Surveying and Mapping, LLC (SAM), as an Associate and part of their Senior Management Team.
A longtime member of the Texas Society of Professional Surveyors (TSPS), he served as President (2000), Governmental Affairs Chair (2001-2011), was named TSPS Surveyor of the Year in 2001, and received TSPS Presidential Citations in 2001 and 2008.
J. Anthony “Tony” Cavell, PLS, CFedS, a Professional Land Surveyor from Baton Rouge, Louisiana was elected vice president of the National Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS).
Cavell has been a licensed PLS in Louisiana for 23 years, is one of the initial Certified Federal Surveyors (CFedS), and is an NSPS Fellow. He served as NSPS Governor representing the Louisiana Society of Professional Surveyors (LSPS), and has served as Secretary of the Board of Governors, as well as Director for the Public Lands Survey System Foundation (PLSSF).
Cavell has experience in both the private and public sectors, having worked in construction surveying, offshore, and has expertise in GPS applications for surveying. Working with LSU, he was a manager for C4G, and helped establish CORS and develop GULFnet RTN for Louisiana.
Jon Warren, a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) from Bellevue, Washington, was elected president-elect of the National Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS). He will take the reins of the national organization in February 2015.
NSPS has a membership of over 10,000 surveyors in the US, and is open to all professional surveyors and persons trained, certified, or involved in the profession of surveying and mapping.
Warren has been a Professional Licensed Land Surveyor in the State of Washington since 1984. He has served as Snohomish County Surveyor (1994-2006), Survey Business Line Manager for WH Pacific (2006-2009), and currently serves as Senior Associate and Puget Sound Region Survey Manager for David Evans and Associates, Inc. (2009-Present).
Warren has served both the Land Surveyors Association of Washington (LSAW) and NSPS for more than 20 years. After serving as LSAW President in 1994, he represented LSAW on the NSPS Board of Governors (1994-1999), serving as Secretary from 1995-1999, served as NSPS Area 10 Director (2000-2006), and before election to President-Elect, was an NSPS Vice President. LSAW honored him as its Surveyor of the Year in 1991.
Kim H. Leavitt, PLS, an Idaho Professional Land Surveyor, was reelected as the Area 7 Director of the National Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS).
Leavitt is president and co-owner of Harper-Leavitt Engineering, Inc. in Idaho Falls and Blackfoot, Idaho. He is a licensed PLS in Idaho, Wyoming and Montana.
He has served as NSPS Governor for the Idaho Society of Professional Land Surveyors, as a member of the ISPLS Board for 22 years, and as ISPLS President. He was named ISPLS Surveyor of the Year in 2001.
