Noted Geodesist Jim Cain Passes

It is with a heavy heart that I feel I should make sure you are aware of the passing of Jim Cain. If you knew him you know he was an important geodesist who was a major driver and manager of the OGP’s EPSG coordinate database registry. He was also very active in the APSG and other organizations. If you can’t make it to pay your respects in person feel free to pass a note on to Liz Cain his wife or Michael Barnes his colleague and good friend. Liz is surrounded by her family. I have been asked to handle some communications with Jim’s many professional friends and colleagues that are outside of the APSG. I know that Liz would appreciate a note of condolence from you, email at TxBlondeCk@aol.com or 12418 Stafford Springs Drive, Houston, TX 77077. Michael can be reached at michael.barnes@cain-barnes.com

Jim Cain was a man of legendary integrity, good humour, and reliability. We all feel an emptiness and he will be greatly missed. His obituary is here: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/houstonchronicle/obituary.aspx?n=jimmy-cain&pid=168292481&fhid=17879
