Topcon DS Versatility Expanded with Robotic Feature

Livermore, Calif., USA/ Capelle A/D Ijssel, The Netherlands – October 9, 2013 – Topcon Positioning Group announces the DS total station can now be purchased as a robotic unit (DS-105AC+) or motorized unit and later upgraded to a fully robotic instrument with a simple firmware upgrade.

“The DS provides a versatility unmatched in the industry,” said Ray Kerwin, director of global planning¬–survey products. “For those who have purchased a standard DS, they may quickly and easily have the upgrade made (contained on USB stick) to robotics, as their application needs change.”

With the addition of a 360-degree prism, Tesla data controller, and MAGNET™ v2.0 software, the DS robotic instrument becomes “one of the industry’s most accurate and efficient entry-level robotic packages,” Kerwin said. “With robotic instrument technology, the user has the benefit of one-person operation, and performance advantages in tasks such as topography and layout.”

The robotic DS has a significant additional benefit – it is the ideal base instrument for a Hybrid Robotic System. “Paired with a HiPer SR site receiver on top of the prism, Tesla field controller and MAGNET v2.0 software, it becomes one of the most productive measurement systems available,” Kerwin said. “When used for hybrid positioning, the DS robotic total station will provide precise measurements anywhere the prism can be seen. When the rover is out of line of sight, GNSS positioning takes over by simply pressing MAGNET’s Hybrid Switch button on the controller.”

The DS is waterproof, includes MAGNET software on-board, and additional technologies from Topcon including the TSshield™ advanced security and maintenance system and LongLink™ wireless communications.
