Woolpert Receives 2013 LCDR Peter Johnson Best Practices Award

Dayton, Ohio (August 9, 2013) – Woolpert, a national geospatial, design and infrastructure management firm, recently announced it has been chosen as the 2013 recipient for the LCDR Peter Johnson Best Practices Award.

Presented during the annual Joint Airborne LIDAR Bathymetry Technical Center of Expertise (JALBTCX) Airborne Coastal Mapping and Charting Annual Conference, the award recognizes excellence in airborne light detection and ranging (LiDAR) survey services leading to a notable success or advancement in best practices. Woolpert was recognized for the firm’s delivery of emergency LiDAR data following Superstorm Sandy to provide immediate and accurate elevation information.

“LiDAR data is becoming more widely recognized as important information when responding to natural disasters, and we are proud that our work helped responders assess storm damage and erosion of the coast following Sandy,” said Chris Ogier, Woolpert geospatial practice leader.

Woolpert delivered the emergency LiDAR data within just a few days of the acquisition despite only having two small windows accompanied by bad weather each day to collect the aerial data.

“While Woolpert is honored to receive this prestigious award, we are also proud we were able to play a part in collecting data vital to helping those affected by the storm recover and rebuild.”
