PremierGeo Buys Third Leica ADS Sensor to Expand Airborne Imaging Capacity

Norcross, GA, USA, 26, February 2013 – Leica Geosystems Inc. today announced that Premier Geospatial Inc. (PremierGeo), an IHS company, has purchased a Leica ADS80 large-format digital imaging sensor. The new Leica ADS80 complements the two Leica ADS40-SH51 sensors that PremierGeo has relied upon to perform the majority of its aerial acquisition projects.

“We bought the third Leica ADS series sensor to satisfy the increased demand for large-area multispectral image collection, especially from federal, state and local governments,” said Peter Briere, PremierGeo General Manager. “The Leica ADS80 sensor is well suited for efficient large-area acquisitions.”

Recently named one of three prime vendors for the USDA National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP), PremierGeo is a full-service geospatial solutions firm with a reputation for rapid processing and delivery of extremely large data sets. Headquartered in Arvada, Colorado, with support facilities in Albuquerque, the firm provides end-to-end airborne imagery and LiDAR services, GIS, land survey and programming capabilities.

“The Leica ADS80 fits seamlessly into the production environment and workflow that we built around our Leica ADS40-SH51 sensors, allowing us to ingest data and create accurate products very quickly,” said Briere. “We plan to deploy all three of our Leica ADS sensors simultaneously on single or multiple projects, as needed, to support our customers.”

The new Leica ADS80 is a large-format digital sensor that offers superior flexibility, productivity, efficiency and reliability. Compared to its predecessors in the Leica ADS sensor series, the Leica ADS80 is equipped with a lighter Control Unit with a greater data throughput rate, allowing for acquisition of higher spatial resolution data at faster airspeeds. The minimum ground sample distance attainable has been improved to 5 cm at 140 knots.

“Leica Geosystems developed the Leica ADS80 sensor to enhance the productivity of aerial survey firms by enabling them to fly faster without sacrificing resolution,” said Jean Gardiner, General Manager of Leica Geospatial Solutions.

PremierGeo took delivery of its new Leica ADS80 sensor in late December 2012 and integrated the system into a Cessna 402C owned by the company. Calibration and other airborne tests were underway in January 2013. PremierGeo plans to have the Leica ADS80 ready for deployment on upcoming projects during the Spring 2013 flying season.
