August 15, 2012, Oregon, USA – Corvallis Microtechnology, Inc. announces the release of the Buffer – Distance – Area application for the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. This app enables the user to quickly digitize a Line or Area Feature and create one or more buffer zones around it. The Line Feature could represent a road, a boundary line or a river bank. The Area Feature could represent any enclosed region, such as a farm plot, a timber stand, an airport or a military base.
The buffer areas reported by the app could help the users to estimate the following:
• Tax credit for the unfarmed area
• Amount of fertilizers to apply on a farm plot
• Amount of work needed to mow inside and outside a large fenced complex
• How much support to summon and dispatch for digging the fire ditch around a burning forest
The users have the option to create left buffers, right buffers or buffer strips. They may also delineate sub-areas or other regions of interest on the displayed map to view the outline and area information.
For devices equipped with GPS, this handy tool app provides the ability to pick the GPS position as a node for the Line or Area Feature. It can display the plot on top of a Google Map.
The line segments of the Line or Area Feature will be labeled with distances and directions. The drawing can be output to a PDF report along with the coordinate data as well as the perimeter and area information. The data file may be emailed to other users.
