City of Nixa, Missouri Selects Midland GIS Solutions to Complete an Electrical Utility GIS Program

Maryville, Mo. (July 31, 2012) — Midland GIS Solutions is pleased to announce a new business partnership with the City of Nixa, Missouri, one of the fastest growing cities in the state. Nixa is located just six miles south of Springfield, MO in Christian County, with a population of approximately 19,000. In an effort to upgrade their expanding electric distribution mapping system, the City selected Midland GIS Solutions to develop an advanced mapping grade inventory of their electric utility network and integrate that data into a GIS program.

Midland GIS Solutions will incorporate Christian County’s existing map data and the City’s new 3” pixel resolution aerial photography into the GIS program to establish a reliable base map within the GIS program. Midland GIS Solutions will utilize decimeter accurate GPS field equipment to obtain locations of features such as substations, poles, street lights, pad mount transformers, junction cabinets and secondary vaults within the City’s electrical distribution network.

Once the project is complete, the City of Nixa will maintain multiple layers of useful data in a centralized location, and manage a consistent and accurate database of spatial data in an environment that supports multi-user access and editing. Data collection is scheduled to begin in August.
