Geneq Introduces Affordable, Rugged Handheld Computer

Montreal  — Geneq Inc. is pleased to announce the SXPad, a full-featured, affordable, rugged handheld computer for GPS/GIS data collection that is built for mobile GIS users in applications ranging from Federal/State/Local government, water/electric/gas utilities, and transportation to mining, agriculture, and forestry.

With its waterproof seal and surviving one meter drops to concrete, the SXPad is built tough to survive outdoors. Its 3.7” color screen (full VGA) is the sharpest outdoor-viewable, transflective touch screen technology available today, allowing users to display the highest resolution aerial photographs and richest GIS data in bright, outdoor sunlight. The SXPad works where you do, in extreme temperatures from -4F (-20C) to 140F (60C).

The rugged SXPad offers features that are typically seen in more costly mobile devices like GSM/GPRS cellular modem, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0 (with SPP support), 3 megapixel camera, and an internal GPS receiver with external GPS antenna port. A MicroSD memory slot is available for up to 8GB of storage.

Measuring 3.7” (94mm) wide, 6.3” (160mm) long, 1.2” (30.5mm) thick and weighing just 9.6 ounces (273g), the SXPad is optimized for GPS/GIS field data collection using its internal GPS receiver or one of Geneq’s high-performance SXBlue GPS receivers for sub-meter and centimeter-level accuracy. A field-replaceable, rechargeable NiMH battery powers the SXPad for up to 16 hours.

The SXPad comes standard with Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.5 Pro with Microsoft Office Mobile, which includes Excel Mobile, Word Mobile, Internet Explorer Mobile, Outlook Mobile and PowerPoint Mobile. A mini-USB port on the SXPad facilitates installing programs and transferring data via wired connection.

Specifically designed for GPS/GIS users, Geneq offers a free Ntrip/DIP client (SXBlue RTN) for the SXPad and SXBlue GPS series that allows to use differentially corrected positions from any data collection software package such as Google Earth Mobile, ArcPad, Field CE, Digiterra, and many others. A post-processing software option for the SXPad will be available in Q2 2012.
