Topcon OS Total Station Series Introduces Multiple Technologies

OS includes MAGNET software, TSshield telematics  module, LongLink wireless communications system

Livermore, Calif. – February 14, 2012  – Topcon Positioning Systems (TPS) announces a new reflectorless total station series that has multiple major technological innovations, including on-board MAGNET™ Field application software.

Other new technologies of the new OS series include LongLink™, a long-distance wireless communications system, and TSshield™, an advanced telematics-based communications module designed to protect the owner’s investment.

Brice Walker, vice president-survey, said, “The OS series provides advanced features that will not only dramatically improve your productivity and job quality, but will also help you manage your entire project more efficiently.”

Walker said, “A major benefit of the OS is the on-board Microsoft Windows® CE6 feature.  The OS total station has an on-board Windows CE6 computer to run MAGNET Field software and provides large colorful icons with touchscreen, ease-of-use operation in mind.”

Jason Hallett, TPS director of product management-software applications, said, “MAGNET Field on-board is one component of the overall MAGNET Solution.  MAGNET considers everything from data collection, to CAD, data manipulation and reporting, to data exchange, and cloud-based project management in a cloud linked environment. The Topcon Group has created a software system that brings productivity improvements to every part of a surveying or construction organization, and we made it simple and affordable.”

The OS is available in 1, 2, 3, and 5 arc second accuracy models.

The exclusive LongLink communications module, when connected with a compatible data collector, provides a highly productive “smart pole” operation that adds speed and accuracy to virtually all measurement operations. “With a range of almost 1000 feet, LongLink is a layout and measurement dream come true,” Walker said. “Hand signals and other error-prone field crew communications are a thing of the past.”

Walker said the “OS comes with the industry’s most complete package of innovative technologies, including the most accurate, most powerful electronic distance measurement (EDM) in its class.

 “The specialized EDM has a smaller beam width than other non-prism instruments in its class. The beam spot ensures precise measurement, especially at shallow incidence angles that outdated technology simply cannot provide. It is also ultra-fast with less than a second fine measurement speed.”

The OS has a-non-prism operating distance of 1,640 feet (500m) and 13,120 feet (4,000m) with a prism.

Walker said, “TSshield enables owners to receive on-instrument notices of available firmware updates. Additionally, if the instrument is lost or stolen, a future firmware release will allow the owner to send a coded signal virtually anywhere in the world to the instrument to disable it.”

Additional features of the OS series include:
• Metal chassis; IP65 water/dustproof rating;
• Internal 750 MB storage;
• 18-hour battery life on a single charge;
• 26-key keyboard, with four-way backlit, directional arrows;
• Multiple languages (English, Spanish, Portuguese);
• USB port data storage;
• Standard temperature range of -20C to +50C (lower and higher temperature options are available);
• Red and green LED guidelights.
