Beaverton, Oregon, USA (February 7, 2012) – Best-Fit Computing, Inc. (www.bestfit.com) announces the release of Columbus 4, its new Web-based least squares network adjustment software product. Featuring a completely redesigned and simplified user interface, you can now access Columbus anywhere, anytime using your favorite browser. Powered by Amazon.com’s cloud infrastructure, there’s no more software to install or update–and you always have the latest version.
“We’re excited and pleased with the result of bringing Columbus to the Web,” said Scott Wallace, President of Best-Fit Computing. “Initial feedback from users has been very positive. Besides the convenience of being able to access Columbus from a Web browser, we think the monthly subscription cost will be attractive to organizations looking for ways to maximize their resources.”
As with previous releases, Columbus 4 features a robust, geodetic-based adjustment engine. This eliminates mathematical distortions of both small and large projects, allowing Columbus 4 to support projects that span any distance. Geoid modeling is handled in the cloud, so there are no more grid files to manage. If you prefer, you may optionally store your data in the cloud on Amazon’s secure, reliable servers (backed-up daily), giving you access to it from any browser. Columbus 4 also features support for third-party file import, as well as 1D, 2D and 3D network adjustments using geodetic, grid or local coordinate systems.
Key Enhancement: Adjust From File
Columbus’ new feature, Adjust From File, allows you to define your entire network adjustment settings from within one input file, bypassing the user interface settings. It’s like solving an adjustment from a command line, but with the ability to view the results within sortable user interface grids. You can use this archived data file to easily repeat the same adjustment year after year, sharing your data with others, with the assurance that the results will be the same each time.
