Leica Geosystems’ SmartNet Expands Coverage Throughout Pennsylvania

(Norcross, GA. 7 December 2011) – Leica Geosystems Inc. announces the expansion of SmartNet North America in the East with a significant increase of coverage in Pennsylvania. Leica Geosystems directly operates, manages, and maintains all aspects of SmartNet North America, a network of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receivers that covers Canada and the United States. The subscription-based service provides high-precision, high-availability Network RTK corrections for any application, and is open to all data formats, offering a GNSS RTK solution to anyone in the precision measurement marketplace.

The Director of Reference Station Operations for SmartNet North America, Wendy Watson, states: “The expanded coverage within Pennsylvania, combined with existing coverage we provide throughout Maryland and New Jersey, gives subscribers more flexibility to operate between these contiguous states with ease and continued coverage.”

SmartNet North America covers Ontario, Quebec and the Maritime Provinces in Canada, and some 15 states, including most of those on the East and West Coasts. The SmartNet portal, http://smartnet.leica-geosystems.us/, provides visitors with an interactive GNSS network coverage map, configuration and connection information, downloads, recorded webinars and information about the variety of subscriptions available based on usage and type of corrections required.

Subscribers report a high level of satisfaction. “Being connected to SmartNet makes our agency – as well as the consultants that subscribe to this network – much more productive,” says Frederick Czepiga, PLS, State Transportation Land Surveyor for the New Jersey Geodetic Survey Unit. “And in the current economic climate, this may make the difference in completing a project on budget and on time.”
