Carlson Brings Point Cloud Data to the World of CAD Design

Almere, The Netherlands (October 25, 2011) — Carlson EMEA BV will be demonstrating the newly released Carlson Point Cloud 2012 at SPAR Europe, November 8 and 9, at the World Forum, The Hague. Carlson Point Cloud, a module of Carlson Software’s extensive AutoCAD®- and IntelliCAD®-based office design software, enables users to transform clouds of data – up to a billion points – into usable data for design and analysis.

“Carlson Point Cloud can read scan data from a wide variety of popular scanners” says Bruce Carlson, president and founder of Carlson Software. “The program will import scanner files from Leica, FARO, MDL, Riegl and Topcon as well as DEM, Lidar and generic ASCII files.”

Carlson Point Cloud includes basic features such as registration, flexible 3D viewing and selection-based drafting of fully annotated point symbols and linework through linkage to the Carlson field-to-finish routines.

Special features of interest include break-line detection, high and low edge detection, application of templates such as L-shaped curbs to single edge selection (e.g., back of curb); auto-detection of the diameter, height and shape of trees, poles and fire hydrants with full text labeling, corner and curve drafting; and most important, bare earth, lowest surface determination through point cloud filtering. This last detail leads to high-quality TINS, contours, profiles and cross sections.

“New commands are also available to add annotation to point cloud scenes to improve communication with co-workers, supervisors, and clients,” added Carlson. “And, Carlson Point Cloud scenes can be imported to PDF files, all with Carlson’s renowned ease-of-use.”

Carlson Point Cloud joins Carlson Survey, Carlson Civil, Carlson Hydrology, Carlson GIS, Carlson Construction, Carlson Takeoff, and Carlson Mining as part of Carlson Software’s office design software offerings.
