Scope: This seminar will examine justice, law and the legal system. A judge and an expert surveyor will discuss where and how surveyors fit and practice in the legal system, both as an expert witnesses and as possible participants as either plaintiffs or defendants. The historical background and the modern functions of law will be discussed which the surveyor/business owner or business surveyor should understand, respect and work within. The session will examine the judicial system from both the vantage point of the judge who is charged to make the system work, the attorney who is an officer of the court and the surveyor who, often times is manipulated by and thus is terrified of what can be expected. The session will culminate with a mock trial that address a surveyor/business litigation problem and an actual survey problem.
