Geographic Information Services, Inc., Embraces Leica GIS Solutions

Geographic Information Services, Inc., one of the largest GIS-specialized firms in the United States, has been appointed a Leica Geosystems dealer for GIS-related products.

(Norcross, Ga., 8, August 2011) Geographic Information Services, Inc. (GISi) and Leica Geosystems will be working together to extend GISi’s offerings for private and government GIS clients. “We chose Leica because it is a respected surveying brand that now has a full suite of GPS and mobile GIS products that are integrated with ESRI’s software suite and geo-databases,” says GISi Development Manager Susan King, “ESRI is a key product partner of ours, and we believe that Leica has integrated the Zeno Field and Office Software and the MobileMatriX Mobile Mapping Suite with ESRI products in a way that makes sense for our clients, big or small. And of course, Leica Geosystems’ hardware and sensor offerings are unmatched in utility and value.”

GISi was founded in 1991 and, that year, was invited to become one of ESRI’s first business partners. By 1997, GISi was the second largest ESRI value added reseller (VAR) in the United States. The firm now has 100 employees in 22 states, and branch offices in Alabama, Michigan, and Washington, DC. The firm is especially strong in the federal sector in general, and the military in particular; GISi is a trusted GIS integrator and consultant for the Department of Defense and all four branches of the military.

“We are dedicated to helping our customers leverage geospatial technologies so that they get the most possible value from their investments,” King explains, “So product partnerships have always been an important part of our business. This new partnership with Leica Geosystems is especially important for us—it means our clients can now bridge the gap between their GIS and Surveying Departments, with software/hardware solutions that are powerful, intuitive, scalable, and interoperable. We’re very happy that we can now offer a complete mobile solution from one of geospatial’s most respected brands.” King says that the business opportunity goes both ways—GISi will also work through Leica client channels to create fully-integrated GIS solutions.

“By integrating Leica’s powerful survey sensors with tablets and other rugged field solutions, and with ArcGIS/ArcPad,” King continues, “We really do have a flexible and complete field-to-finish solution for our client base; we couldn’t be happier!”

Leica Geosystems’ GIS Business Development Manager Mauricio Jaimes is also positive about the new partnership. “GISi is so important in the United States, just an outstanding GIS firm in both private and public sectors. Connecting our strong lineup of field and office solutions with their GIS expertise and huge client base is a big win for all parties; obviously we’re excited about this!”
