Texas Changes CEU Requirements to Include Ethics

As the chair of the Texas Board of Professional Land Surveying Continuing Education Committee, I wish to emphasize the new CEU requirement for license renewal effective January 1, 2011.

Under Board Rule 664.3 Registered Professional Land Surveyors must have 12 hours of CEU for license renewal by December 31, 2011. A minimum of three hours must be on the Act/Rules and/or Ethics. Five percent of registrants will be audited and required to provide evidence that the CEU requirements are satisfied. Your license to practice surveying will be immediately suspended if you failed the audit. Renewal of an expired license will be subject to additional fee and in some cases, retake the SIT and RPLS examinations.

Texas Board of Professional Land Surveying has a four hours CEU ethics course available to the registrants. The course material was prepared by James Noble Johnson. It is offered in both on line or home study format. Detail can be obtained from the Board’s website at

http://www.txls.state.tx.us or 512-239-5263.

June is already here and you will need to prepare for renewing your license in a few months. It is advisable that you take an early step in accomplishing this task so there will be no misunderstanding at the end of the year. For your information, 125 registrants were selected for the 2010 CEU audit.
