Altus Positioning Systems Supplies GNSS Survey Receivers to Royal Canadian Mounted Police for Collision Reconstruction

Torrance, Calif. – May 17, 2011 – Altus Positioning Systems today announced that it recently completed deliveries of 22 APS-3 GNSS survey receivers to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).

The order for the 22 high-precision GNSS units was placed through Butler Survey Supplies Ltd., an Altus dealer in Canada. The RCMP is pairing the receivers, which can each be used as a base station or a rover, into 11 systems with MapScenes Evidence Recorder (EvR) software to reconstruct traffic accident scenes in Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

“We originally supplied six APS-3 systems to the RCMP early last year,” said Curtis Boechler, sales manager with Butler Survey Supplies Ltd. “The new order for the 22 additional receivers was based largely on their record of successful performance in the field over the last 12 months.”

“Altus’ GNSS RTK technology and the EvR software provide a powerful combination for rapid and efficient evidence collection and mapping,” he added. “The versatile system architecture of the APS-3 receiver makes it easy to program the units for use as a rover or base station in RTK applications, an important consideration when working in the remote northern regions of Canada that do not have easy access to reference station data via terrestrial wireless links.”

The Altus APS-3 is a compact, lightweight, portable 136-channel GNSS RTK receiver. It is based on the high-precision Septentrio multi-frequency AsteRx2e engine. The unit is completely configurable from the data collector via Bluetooth for either base or rover operation with the internal UHF radio or for network rover operation with the internal quad-band GSM/GPRS modem. Its removable 2GB SD memory card enables plug-and-play of raw data transfer for post processing.

Neil Vancans, CEO and president of Altus Positioning Systems, commented, “It’s always gratifying to get a repeat order from an existing customer. It’s a strong validation of our product’s design features, and a testimony to the exceptional technical support provided by our valued dealer, Butler Survey. The company’s slogan is ‘Your Partner in the Field,’ which they certainly live up to.”

Butler Survey Supplies Ltd. is the primary distributor of Altus Positioning Systems in Canada. With over 32 years of experience in the survey and engineering field equipment business, the company has the technical equipment and knowledge to support all of its customers’ needs.
