Petticoat-Schmitt Civil Contractors Receives Nuca Awards for Excellence in Safety and Community Service

Jacksonville, Fla. (Jan. 3, 2011) – Petticoat-Schmitt Civil Contractors, Inc. has been awarded the William Feather Safety Award and the National Community Service Award from the National Utility Contractors Association (NUCA).  NUCA is a leading industry association representing utility and excavation contractors throughout the country.

“The William Feather Safety Award and National Community Service Award are two of the most prestigious honors awarded by NUCA,” said Ryan Schmitt, president of Petticoat-Schmitt (right) and 2011 NUCA chairman. “NUCA has a strong commitment to advocating the highest safety standards and it is an honor to be recognized for our safety record. We are also excited to receive the award for community service because we have always been committed to giving back to the community where we do business.”

Petticoat-Schmitt won the William H. Feather Safety Award in the 0-100,000 man-hours category in recognition of its excellent safety record. Created in 1978 to honor the contributions of the founding chairman of NUCA’s Safety Committee, the William H. Feather Safety Awards recognize the highest commitment to safety demonstrated by deserving NUCA members. Winners are chosen in five categories established according to total man hours worked on the basis of injury frequency data, submission of a safety statement and overview of the company’s safety program.

NUCA awards its coveted National Community Service Award to association members who provide a service to a community project through the donation of equipment, materials, manpower and money. Petticoat-Schmitt won the award for its work at Seamark Ranch, a non-denominational, nonprofit home for abused and neglected children in Clay County.

The award presentation took place at the NUCA national awards luncheon held in conjunction with NUCA’s annual Washington Summit at the Hyatt Regency Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. NUCA is the largest trade association representing the underground utilities industry in the legislative arena and with government agencies.
