Leica SmartWorx Viva v3.00 – Capture, Sketch, Link and More New Features

(Norcross, 5 October 2010) – Leica Geosystems is pleased to announce the latest version 3.00 of the Leica SmartWorx Viva onboard software. This new version runs on the newly released Leica Viva Total Stations – the TS15 and TS11 – and on the Leica Viva CS15 and CS10 Field Controllers. Among many new features the software now supports Image Assisted Surveying and Documentation.

Since it’s launch just over one year ago, Leica SmartWorx Viva data collection software has become incredibly popular amongst a wide range of measurement professionals – from “occasional” surveyors who may only need to measure or stake-out points once or twice a week to “power users” using Leica Viva equipment every day. Leica SmartWorx Viva software was designed with simplicity in mind by using clear graphics, logical menu structures, non technical terminology and simplified workflows.

Quick and easy instrument setup
Wherever a picture can help the user make a decision Leica SmartWorx Viva uses graphics. All data collection software offer the user a variety of ways to set up a total station – but unless the user is familiar with the terminology of that software it can be difficult to understand. With a combination of graphics and explanatory text, even a new user to Leica SmartWorx Viva can easily understand the various options available to set up a total station.

Image Assisted Surveying and Documentation – Capture, Sketch, Link
One of the main new features within SmartWorx Viva v3.00 is image assisted surveying – a three step process – Capture, Sketch, Link.

Capture: With a single button press, users can capture a high-resolution image of exactly what the total station wide-angle camera or the camera of the controller sees. Or even capture any screen currently shown on the display.
Sketch: The captured image can be enhanced through sketching with any colour, line style and thickness.
Link: The final image can be stored and if desired, linked to any object of interest (point, line or area)

Alastair Green, Program Manager at Leica Geosystems says “With Image Assisted Surveying, productivity is optimized with exact photo documentation of what was seen and measured on site and a user never again needs to struggle with paper and wet field notes. We really think what we have introduced with regards to Image Assisted Surveying will revolutionize data collection in the field. The only limit as to what is possible with Image Assisted Surveying is the user’s imagination.”

‘Tap & Turn’ and more new features in Leica Viva SmartWorx v3.00
Additionally to the Image Assisted Surveying Leica Viva SmartWorx v3.00 supports the ‘Tap & Turn’ feature that allows – thanks to live streaming of the total station view on the robotic controller – to easily measure remote points without returning to the total station. The Grid Scan application enables a predefined area to be scanned rapidly with survey accuracy. Furthermore, shape files, the import of dxf heights and many other new features are available. Alastair Green concludes “we are constantly adding new features to SmartWorx Viva, predominantly based directly on user’s feedback without never forgetting the original design goals of the SmartWorx Viva onboard software – keep it simple and keep it productive – simply productive”.
