(Norcross, Ga., 17 August 2010) Leica Geosystems announces its next-generation 2D cutting-edge guidance system for excavators. By expanding on Leica’s PowerSnap technology, Leica PowerDigger 2D makes excavating easier and more productive. Using the same panel on a dozer, excavator or grader saves money on training and equipment while minimizing down time.
Leica PowerDigger 2D is part of the PowerDigger portfolio which is the result of 12 years market-leading experience with excavator guidance systems. Uniquely, the system allows multiple elevations and slopes to be constructed at any orientation, without resetting the machine or laser height reference.
Leica PowerDigger 2D provides unique safety features and the new PowerDriller function – ideal for maintaining verticality for excavator drilling attachments. The PowerDigger 2D also reduces costly rework while eliminating over-excavation and grade-checking.
Unique PowerSnap concept makes it easy to swap panels
Thanks to PowerSnap, Leica Geosystems machine guidance systems are not restricted to just one machine. PowerSnap is a cable-free system that allows users to swap control panels between traditional grade & slope and 3D machine controls completely seamlessly as the job demands.
Rapid interchange of control panels between machines gives you extra flexibility on the site. The core components can be removed for overnight security, while the cradle stores machine-specific settings. By adding a 3D control box and GNSS sensors you can upgrade to a 3D guidance solution that allows you to excavate according to the 3D design model on your panel.
PowerSnap also lets new customers manage their investment path as they move into machine control offering complete backwards compatibility and affordable upgrade paths from traditional laser/slope control – all the way up to 3D GPS technology. An investment in Leica Geosystems machine control systems allows the contractor to grow their technology investment as their business grows.
Outstanding performance and flexibility
The Leica PowerDigger 2D gives users all the information needed on a rugged control box with a 3.5" full color graphical display that allows complex designs and profiles to be constructed quickly and conveniently. The system features a simple user interface with intuitive graphics and function keys that provide instant access to important functions.
Leica PowerDigger 2D provides unique flexibility and is fully upgradeable. Customers can start with single grade operation and upgrade the system as needed to a full dual grade system by adding a rotation and tilt-bucket sensor. The contractor can use the same hardware installation platform for any machine type – be it a dozer, grader or excavator.
Unique safety features and PowerDriller functionWhen working in potentially dangerous areas such as under bridges and power lines or inside buildings, the operator can preset a maximum working height and be warned when the excavator arm or bucket reaches the critical height. Leica PowerDigger 2D also features the unique integrated buried service detection warning. An EZiDIG cable detection sensor can be interfaced directly to the PowerDigger CAN connection. The operator while digging will be alerted of buried services by an audio alarm and visual display on the PowerDigger 2D display.
For vertical positioning of sheet piles or drilling post-holes, Leica PowerDigger 2D is also equipped with the unique PowerDriller function.
