Accela to Incorporate International Code Council eCodes into Accela Automation Software

Technology and resale agreement will provide Accela’s global government customers with seamless access to world’s foremost online database of design, construction codes

San Ramon, Calif., Aug. 2, 2010 – Accela, Inc., the leading provider of Web-based software that makes government services available 24/7, today announced an agreement with the International Code Council (ICC), the world’s primary source of regulatory design and construction compliance standards, which will enable ICC’s eCodes digital code products to be directly accessible by users of Accela’s flagship Accela Automation® application. Access to ICC’s eCodes Premium Subscription service will be incorporated within Accela Automation’s forthcoming Project Manager solution, expected in 2011. The agreement also allows Accela to serve as a reseller of eCodes Premium Subscriptions to its hundreds of worldwide customers.

ICC’s eCodes online portal, www.ecodes.biz, is the world’s most comprehensive online resource for information on design and construction codes. The partnership will provide plan reviewers among Accela’s roster of U.S. and international government customers with tools to easily research and apply relevant regulatory, safety, energy and environmental codes to the permitting process for local projects. Through eCodes Premium Subscription, Accela customers can access ICC’s state, local or individual codes, or a combination thereof, to create customized online code libraries and annotations based on their specific and evolving requirements. One-click access will allow customers to set up an eCodes account within 72 hours, and to integrate code information directly within their Accela Automation Project Manager documents.

“As a leading global supplier of compliance codes, ICC is committed to improving both the availability and ease of access to the code information,” said Drew Azzara, Vice President, Global Services at ICC. “Accela’s combination of technology leadership in planning and permitting software, its significant U.S. market position, and its expanding international business, make the company an excellent platform for ICC”.

Accela Technology at Work
Accela Automation is a Web-based enterprise application that streamlines permitting; licensing; code enforcement; community planning and development; asset management; and emergency response; while bringing traditional counter services directly to the public. The product’s complete Project Manager solution, currently under development, will provide a comprehensive and collaborative enterprise project review and management capability for a range of regulatory documents – including plans, architectural drawings, licenses, and more.

“One of the biggest challenges plan reviewers face is the ability to communicate concisely to architects and engineers exactly what a problem might be and what the related building code states,” said Maury Blackman, President and CEO of Accela, Inc. “Incorporating direct access to the ICC’s eCodes portal within Accela Automation’s Project Manager functionality will accelerate planning processes and eliminate ambiguity – while supporting Accela’s strategy to make critical government information available to workers wherever and whenever they need it.”

About ICC
ICC, a membership association dedicated to building safety, fire prevention and energy efficiency, develops codes used to construct residential and commercial buildings, including homes and schools. Most U.S. cities, counties and states choose the International Codes, building safety codes developed by the International Code Council. The International Codes also serve as a basis for construction of federal properties around the world, and as a reference for many nations globally. Details are available at www.iccsafe.org.
