ASHE’s Delaware Valley Chapter Recognizes PA Turnpike Design-Build Bridge Replacement Project
Lancaster, Pa. – RETTEW, an Engineering News-Record top 500 design firm providing engineering, transportation, environmental consulting, planning and surveying services, recently received the 2009 award for project of the year under $10 million from the Delaware Valley chapter of the American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE). RETTEW and project partner Loftus Construction, Inc., received the award for a design-build project that involved two bridge replacements located in Montgomery County on the Northeastern Extension (I-476) of the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
“RETTEW and Loftus teamed together to make this design-build project a success for the Pennsylvania Turnpike, which ultimately improves travel for the many motorists who use the turnpike’s northeastern extension,” said Mark Lauriello, PE, president, RETTEW.
The design-build project involved the replacement of two overhead bridges on the Turnpike’s Northeastern Extension. Located in Montgomery County, Kriebel Road Bridge in Towamencin Township and Bethel Road Bridge in Worcester Township were the first of seven scheduled for replacement as part of the Turnpike’s $300 million project involving reconstruction and widening of 10.5 miles of road from the Mid-County Interchange to the Lansdale Interchange. Loftus Construction Inc., Cinnaminson, N.J., served as general contractor while RETTEW provided bridge design, roadway design and construction management and oversight.
