Urges Local Businesses: Take the First Step to Help a Good Cause
March 2010 – The Central Florida Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society named Jay W. Freeland, President and Chief Executive Officer of FARO Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: FARO), corporate chair of its 2010 Greater Orlando Light The Night® Walk, the LLS annual fundraising event each fall to raise money for cancer research and patient services.
LLS holds walks each fall in more than 200 communities across the United States and Canada. Participants at the walks carry illuminated balloons – white for survivors, red for supporters, and gold to remember those who have died – to honor and commemorate lives touched by blood cancer. In Central Florida, walks will take place on October 2nd, October 23rd, November 6th, and November 13th in Orlando, Daytona Beach, Lakeland, and Cocoa, respectively.
“Light The Night is a great way to build a spirit of caring and cooperation among employees as they help others,” said Mr. Freeland. “I am honored to serve as the chair and look forward to engaging local businesses and corporations as I work to secure their commitment to this fantastic cause.”
The funds raised through corporate and individual contributions help to find cures and better therapies for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and to provide information, education and support for patients and their families.
“Light The Night Walk gives hope to patients and their families and lets them know they are not alone in their battle against cancer,” said Laura Kraubetz, Light The Night Director.
Light The Night’s 2010 National Associate Sponsors in the United States are: Bristol-Myers Squibb, Celgene Corporation, Cephalon Inc., Genentech/Biogen Idec, Millennium: The Takeda Oncology Company and Quest Diagnostics. Corporate support through team fundraising and retail sales includes: Burlington Coat Factory, our 2009 Top Fundraising National Partner; and Carter’s through retail programs and associate fundraising.
