Leica ALS60 purchase will complement and support DAS’ existing airborne image solutions and provide new business opportunities with local, state and federal government clients.
(Norcross, Ga., 18 Jan 2010) Leica Geosystems’ six-year relationship with Digital Aerial Solutions (DAS), a full-service commercial provider of digital aerial imagery and geospatial products, was further strengthened by DAS’ purchase of Leica Geosystems’ ALS60 airborne LiDAR scanner, the company’s third-generation LiDAR (light detection and ranging) system.
Already an avid Leica ADS40 digital airborne user, the new Leica ALS60 technology complements DAS’ existing aerial imaging capabilities to provide an efficient and cost-effective means to acquire accurate, terrain elevation data and create high-resolution digital terrain models (DTMs), digital elevation models (DEMs) and topographical map products for a variety of project applications.
"We are excited to add new technology such as the Leica ALS60 LiDAR system, which further enables DAS to compete in the highly technical field of geospatial surveying and remote sensing and increase our ability to serve our customers’ needs,” said Mitch Jordan, Vice President of Program Management for DAS, based in Tampa, Florida.
With the Leica ALS60’s modular platform, DAS will be able to integrate additional airborne sensors to offer concurrent, high quality airborne images from its LiDAR surveys, providing clients with an additional visual perspective of their survey area.
"We at Leica Geosystems are very pleased with this opportunity to help DAS, Inc. expand its business with their addition of LiDAR technology using the ALS60 system,” said George Southard, Leica Geosystems’ Vice President Americas, Digital Imaging. “It has been very exciting over the past several years to watch DAS grow and support its advance in this very dynamic industry we share."
