Seminar attendees will learn how numerous cities and towns have implemented creative ideas driving variety of solutions in today’s economy, including:
• The Hamilton Southeastern Utilities “Call Before You Dig” Application. The utilities, with more than 36,000 customers in three townships covering 38,000 acres, saw its 600 yearly utility location requests soar to more than 18,000. Using GIS technology, Hamilton was able to know ahead of time if a location had a utility present, and only send crews to those with an existing line. This saves the company time and money and better utilizes its existing resources.
· Aged Wastewater Treatment Plant. A regional wastewater treatment plant was finding it hard to plan for future growth. Engineers at Schneider Corporation were able to assess all the system’s components, design a system to meet future requirements, and identify those existing components that could be retro-fitted for new purposes in order to save money and time. Schneider also worked with the client to identify several funding sources for the entire project.
• Economic Development Web Portal. To improve economic development of distressed properties and land, city managers in a central Indiana town are creating a presence on the web to showcase properties they would like to be developed. By encouraging development, the city is helping to bring in new employers, create jobs and generate tax income. The portal uses GIS to provide detailed information on the properties
