Magellan Professional Introduces the New U-Link Radio Generation

Cost-effective and high-quality UHF data links

Carquefou, France – June 15, 2009 — Magellan® Professional announced today the launch of a new proprietary UHF radio generation including the new U-Link Rx module and U-Link TRx transmitter/receiver.

The new Magellan Professional U-Link radio generation offers 12.5-kHz channel spacing and is certified both for North America (FCC and IC) and Europe (CE).

Due to a high sensitivity level on the reception side (-114 dBm) and the use of state-of-the art technology, the new U-Link radio solution can achieve an impressive range, equivalent to that of a conventional radio link transmitting up to10 times the U-Link TRx output power. This is particularly important in countries with restrictions on UHF power output. With its small and lightweight rugged transmitter hardware, which requires lower power consumption and thus smaller batteries, this radio solution is easy to carry and install.

“Radio link is critical for GNSS applications because high quality of real-time corrections guarantees reliable data collection and accurate positioning.” said Robert Snow, Director of Product Marketing for Magellan Professional. “Leveraging years of experience in numerous professional sectors, Magellan Professional offers today a new very light, robust and cost-effective radio solution that can efficiently support the most critical real-time GNSS applications.”

U-Link Rx receiver
U-Link Rx is a radio receiver covering the band from 410 to 470 MHz with 12.5-kHz channel spacing. It is available as an embedded radio module in the ProMark™ 500 GNSS rover and as a built-in board in the ProFlex™ 500 GNSS receiver. The new U-Link Rx is fully compatible with the previous generation of Magellan Professional UHF transmitters. The U-Link receiver kit includes a radio module and a whip antenna.

U-Link TRx transmitter
The U-Link TRx is a radio transmitter/receiver covering the band from 410 to 470 MHz with 12.5-kHz channel spacing. It is fully compatible with the new U-Link Rx, existing 12.5-kHz UHF receivers sold with ProMark 500 and ProFlex 500, as well as with the previous generation of Magellan Professional UHF receivers.

U-Link TRx offers three different levels of output power: 0.5, 2 and 4 W. and is available as a repeater when the UHF coverage needs to be extended.

U-Link TRx is built in a small, lightweight and rugged aluminum package (IP 65).
