Leica Geosystems Announces the New Leica TM30

High Precision Sensor has SmartEye Vision for Monitoring Applications

(Norcross, 21 April 2009) The Leica TM30 succeeds the highly acclaimed Leica TCA2003 and TCA1800 total stations and is designed specifically for monitoring applications. It incorporates unmatched accuracy, outstanding reliability and robust design. Equipped with direct drives based on the latest Piezo technology, the Leica TM30 accelerates extremely fast, allowing shorter measurements cycles when working with multiple prisms. The silent drives enable the TM30 to be installed in urban areas for monitoring applications with zero noise pollution.

“With the release of the TM30, Leica Geosystems has secured its leadership position in the monitoring market well into the future. The TM30 total station incorporates the highest angular accuracy on the market and the most precise EDM with SmartEye Vision.  Also standard is the latest in Piezo technology to ensure fast and silent operation, the TM30 coupled with the GeoMos software is a unique and complete monitoring solution. We are very excited to offer this next generation in total station monitoring technology from Leica Geosystems to the marketplace.” says Wendy Watson Product Marketing Manager for Leica Geosystems Inc.

0.5” angle accuracy – 0.6 mm distance accuracy
The Leica TM30 offers accurate angle measurements of 0.5” or 1” to meet highest standards in all monitoring applications. Distances can now be measured with Leica Geosystems’ proven PinPoint EDM Technology with an unprecedented precision of 0.6 mm + 1 ppm on prisms. On natural surfaces a high accuracy of 2 mm + 2 ppm is achieved.

Automatic prism detection up to 3,000 meters with millimeter accuracy
Leica SmartEye Vision technology integrates three new functionalities. First, prisms are automatically detected within a range of up to 3,000 meters with millimeter accuracy allowing highest flexibility of instrument placement. Second, the TargetView functionality narrows the field-of-view when using multiple prisms close together. The correct prisms are detected without interference from surrounding prisms. Finally, TargetCapture technology stores the telescope camera image as documentation of any measured point.

Continuous operation, long service intervals and low power consumption
The Leica TM30 is designed to withstand the roughest use in the most severe environments for 24/7 monitoring operations. The TM30 can operate for extremely long intervals without suffering from the usual wear and tear that could occur in other non Leica Total Stations. The long service interval, low maintenance costs and continuous operation ensure maximum productivity. The unique Piezo direct drive technology ensures maximum accuracy while minimizing power consumption with intelligent on-demand power management.
