Fix Recognized by Bear Creek Water and Sanitation District

Aurora, Colorado – April 7, 2009 – Barney Fix PE, C.C.E., vice president, and manager of the civil infrastructure business unit operations for Merrick & Company, was recognized by Bear Creek Water and Sanitation District for his 20 years of service to the District as District Engineer. Fix started his work with Bear Creek in 1988, while working for Greiner Engineering. Following his move to Merrick in 1992, the district engineering contract moved with him and he continued his work with Bear Creek in reviewing development plans, observing construction of public water and sanitary sewer in developments, and providing planning, engineering, and surveying for capital improvements for the district over the years.

Sandra Boster, District Manager and Secretary, Board of Directors, added, “Mr. Fix is highly professional and quite personable. He takes engineering for the District beyond the normal realm of services. He cares. His team encourages best practices for the most effective results in District operations. Mr. Fix has the classic indomitable optimism and can-do spirit.”

One of the projects Fix was involved in that has had the most long-range impact on the District was the conversion of the District’s maps, first to AutoCAD, then to the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) format in 2000. Bear Creek was one of the first districts to install and utilize GIS and as such, they led the way and continue to be a leader in using GIS.

“It’s been enjoyable to work with Bear Creek because of their desire to be on the cutting edge of technology. They’re always focused on ways they can better serve their constituents,” said Fix.

Fix plans to continue his ongoing work with the District. He’s currently involved in finalizing the GIS system, overseeing three capital water and sanitary sewer improvement projects, negotiation of shared systems with neighboring districts, conducting a strong sewer study, analyzing feasibility of installing meters to measure sanitary sewer discharge to Metro Wastewater Reclamation District, and assisting with long-range financial projections.
