Magellan Enriches MobileMapper 6 With New Post-Processing Option and Value Features

Feature rich hand-held GPS/GIS receiver delivers meter accuracy at low-cost

Intergeo Exhibition, Bremen, Germany. (September 30th, 2008) – Magellan®, one of the fastest growing GPS brand in the world, today introduced a post-processing option and new feature to its low cost handheld GIS/GPS receiver – MobileMapper™ 6.

MobileMapper 6 Post Processing Option
The raw data collection capability enabling post-processing, is included as an option in the new version of the Mobile Mapping field software for MobileMapper 6. Current users of MobileMapper 6 can order the post-processing option (activation code) and upgrade their units, via a simple and free firmware upgrade. The new Mobile Mapping application also complement the MobileMapper 6 offer with value features such as 3D shape files support, e-compass input for direction measurements,  voice tags as attribute, image geo-referencing in the field,  cable locator  interface and office tool for post-processing and GIS jobs management (“MobileMapper 6 Office software”).

“With its new post-processing feature enabling 1-2 meter accuracy, the MobileMapper 6 is targeted on new geographic markets where SBAS corrections are not available and to address the improved accuracy requirement of some professionals among the worldwide GIS user community, “said Francois Erceau, General Manager of Magellan Professional. It is expected to particularly appeal to forestry and other natural resource organizations, oil and gas, agriculture, utilities, government agencies, that need an easy to use, robust GIS unit.

MobileMapper 6 product
The MobileMapper 6 offers the professional features associated with more costly high-end GIS/GPS units, yet it is price-competitive with consumer-grade GPS. “The MobileMapper 6 is an economically, professional-grade GPS/GIS handheld receiver rugged-built for business applications,”  continues Francois Erceau. “With its low-cost, lightweight rugged design, and the ability to run virtually all GIS software, we expect it to become a favorite of both large and small businesses.”

MobileMapper 6 comes standard with Microsoft Windows Mobile version 6.  In addition, it comes with Bluetooth for wireless connectivity, and an integrated 2-megapixel camera that can take photos, which can be tagged with the GPS location and used as a point description data in any GIS application, such as Magellan’s Mobile Mapping software, ESRI’s ArcPad, DigiTerra Explorer, or other third-party software.
