Orlando, Fla.– The Florida Institute of Consulting Engineers (FICE) presented Bowyer-Singleton & Associates (Bowyer-Singleton) a full-service civil engineering firm based in downtown Orlando, with its Engineering Excellence Grand Award during the organization’s 92nd Annual Summer Conference & Exposition at The Ritz-Carlton Beach Resort in Naples. Honored for their project on Florida’s Turnpike at Kissimmee Park Road, Bowyer-Singleton received the top award in the transportation category of the 2008 Engineering Excellence Award Competition.
In collaboration with the City of St. Cloud and Osceola County, Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise selected Bowyer-Singleton to implement an interchange on Florida’s Turnpike at Kissimmee Park Road with a timeline much shorter than the expected seven to ten years. By utilizing an innovative schedule to compress the length of the project, Bowyer-Singleton designed the interchange to allow traffic in just 42 months from the start of construction. Complete with electronic toll collection systems, bridge replacement and new ramp construction, the interchange now serves more than 7,500 vehicles a day.
The project ranked highly on criteria such as complexity, innovation in technique and future value to the engineering profession. Bowyer-Singleton was one of only eight grand award winners in the state and the only winner in the transportation category.
