Lakewood, Colo., 24 May 2006 – WhiteStar Corp. today added Montana to its CartoBase line of digital cartographic products, which are developed specifically for oil and gas mapping. Montana joins Texas, Colorado, Louisiana, Wyoming and Utah in the CartoBase product line-up.
WhiteStar offers the CartoBase products on a subscription basis whereby clients receive quarterly updates of key data layers for two or three years following the initial purchase. Each CartoBase product contains up to 24 seamless layers of geospatial data covering the entire state and delivered on DVDs equipped with the CartoBase software application that allows users to export data in their choice of mapping formats. Popular software formats supported include Petra, AutoCAD, Kingdom, GeoGraphix, ArcGIS and ArcView.
“The CartoBase subscription provides an enormous value proposition for oil and gas companies,” said Steve Pickett, WhiteStar Director of Business Development. “Not only do clients receive state-wide coverage of multiple cartographic layers, they also get quarterly well updates and semi-annual pipeline updates.”
Each CartoBase product contains high-resolution statewide data coverage from WhiteStar’s most popular National Database products, including:
• Public Land Survey Grid containing the 1:24,000 land base derived from U.S. topographic maps;
• Pipeline Database of the location and attribute details for oil, gas and petroleum pipelines operating in the state;
• Well Location File including the location and attribute information for oil, gas and coal-bed methane well heads.
Other data layers vary from state to state, but most include TIGER file cultural features at 1:100,000 scale, digital elevation models at 1:24,000, political boundaries, TeleAtlas transportation networks, geologic formations and soils maps. The Montana CartoBase covers 3,955 townships including the extremely active Bowdoin Dome and Williston Basin areas.
CartoBase clients have reported that confidentiality is another major benefit of the subscription product. When an energy company obtains cartographic or well information from a local county, word sometimes leaks out regarding its interest in exploration there. With CartoBase, the client buys the entire state without revealing its plans for any specific location.
