Clary & Associates Professional Surveyors and Mappers 'Go Red' to Raise Heart Disease Awareness

Jacksonville, FL — March 3, 2006 — Red isn’t just for Valentine’s Day anymore. In support of the American Heart Association’s (AHA) national “Go Red for Women Day” on Friday, February 3rd, the ladies of Clary & Associates Professional Surveyors and Mappers joined in the effort to educate the community about the nation’s number one killer of females over the age of 25 — heart disease.

Having dubbed February, “Heart Disease Awareness Month,” the AHA is in its third year of the Go Red for Women campaign designed to educate women and raise awareness of the dangers of heart disease. Wearing the symbolic color, the ladies of Clary & Associates took part in the company-wide distribution of important facts and information about heart health, as well as initiated topical discussions and shared valuable research findings.

“It’s very important for us to take time out of our busy lives to focus on ways to better care for ourselves, as well as to make good health a top priority,” said Sue Scull, senior vice president of Clary & Associates. “Not only is heart disease the number one killer of women, it’s also the number one killer of men. It’s an entirely preventable disease, and it takes only a small effort to educate someone in the ways to live a healthier, stronger life. Any amount of participation in this cause makes a huge difference in our overall awareness of the disease, and we’re more than happy to do our part.”

The American Heart Association’s “Go Red for Women” movement gives women tips and information on healthy eating, exercise and risk factor reduction, including: smoking cessation, weight maintenance, blood pressure control and blood cholesterol management. A free Go Red Heart Checkup, as well as a wealth of information on this national educational campaign, also can be found at www.goredforwomen.org.

“As we get older, we tend to pay more attention to our health,” said Scull. “This disease does not discriminate. It affects both young and old alike. It’s never too late to get the information you need to start living well for yourself and your family. An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure.”
